Besides his solo career Frank Zappa formed the Mothers Of Invention. This band came from the ashes of the Soul Giants, a band formed in 1964.
The band was signed to Verve, a division of MGM Records. They released a double album “ Freak Out!” on which pop music was mixed with serious music (avant garde).
Their albums hit the charts. “ We’re Only In It For The Money” made fun of hippies and the “ Sgt. Pepper” album of the Beatles.
On “ Ruben & The Jets” the band played doo wop.
The Mothers Of Invention line up lasted till 1970.
After that they became Frank Zappa & The Mothers and Frank Zappa & the Mothers Of Invention.
